What's going on at the Dead End in 2011......

11/10/11

Well, another Halloween, come and gone. We didn't set up this year until the Thursday before Halloween, which is the latest I've ever set up. I did my usual working on things right up until the ToTs arrived. Unfortunately, my video camera is not working now, for some reason the part that holds the tape won't retract back into the camera with a tape in it, so I didn't get the video I wanted to get of scares at the front walk way. I guess it doesn't matter anyway since we only got about 30 kids or so, plus parents. That's a big drop, and reminds me of the first few years of doing this. It's frustrating, but then again, it was a Monday night and it did rain that day. Several people asked why we didn't do the inside walking tour of the house and they missed it. It made me feel good to see repeat people from years past that always bring friends just to see what I've done. I did get a couple of good scares with the help of the fogger and perfect timing of it rolling across me to conceal me until I moved. I love that part. My partner in crime this year was Ivy, who is a good candy controller. She even made sure I had my chocolate intake in-between victims. Didn't take a ton of pics since most of it is the same as last year anyway. There's two new props, one a full pumpkin monster and one just a JoL that I made from papier mache. I see lots of those next year in the display as we change it up, though after 17 years, I don't know if we will be living in this neighborhood or even in a house with a yard next year. :( Oh well, all in all, this was a decent Halloween and I am back in the spirit of creating, which I really desperately need to keep me sane. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Halloween.

Been working on a couple of props, got some progress going on the pumpkin monster prop that I started two years ago. Hoping to get it done within the next couple of days. Started a new pumpkin too, it will not have a body though. I still have not pulled the first thing down from the attic. This is the latest I've EVER been with setting anything up, but with no party this year, there was no need for all the early set up. Tomorrow will be the big day that we at least start on the cemetery in the front yard (weather permitting). Missed two parties that we were invited to, one last week because I was sick, and the other last night that was out of town. We may pop in at the neighborhood party at the club house, who knows.

Here's a little teaser of the progress on the new prop for those who aren't on Facebook:

Ocala's Fear Fest is big news for our motley crew of haunters, and if you're in the area, you should definitely pop in and check it out!

Well, I started a new job in August, and was let go on Friday Sept. 30th. I worked long days, and on Saturdays too, packaging collegiate paper/party products for a few weeks. I hope that their company doesn't suffer too badly being already a few weeks behind and now being 4 more already-trained people short. While I absolutely LOVED what I did, I could not handle the woman I worked directly for, who was also one of the two owners (husband/wife team), and I made it quite clear that she was intolerable. She made working there feel tense all the time - treated us all like we were idiots and didn't bother to mask her contempt for everyone else there. There was not one person there who did not express a complaint on a daily (and sometimes HOURLY) basis, so I know it's not just me. After the fiasco working for my ex-husband, I was not in the state of mind to be constantly demeaned or made to feel like I can never do anything right by another narcissist. I probably lost a very good opportunity to do something worthwhile and more in tune to my experience and goals, however, I also have a sneaking suspicion that my other boss didn't exactly share his job offer of being more involved within the company with his wife, or the other two people whom my presence would have affected. I'm trying to keep an optimistic outlook, and am hoping that something else comes along very soon since I am still very behind on everything and really need some sort of stability.

As far as Halloween goes, I have actually been working on a prop I started 2 years ago. I have no plans at all for a party, and I will hopefully be able to attend someone else's shindig for a change. I'd planned on hitting some of the local haunts, but with money being an issue right now, I can't afford it. I would love to see some of the homegrown haunts around the area instead, since I'm always so busy working on my own and never have time to visit any one else. I'm stoked for actual Halloween this year. It's not secondary to my party this year, and that gives me a really good back-to-basics feeling, which I think I needed after getting so burnt out on working so hard for the yearly party here.

I also got a few updates done on the Florida Haunters site, to the main and events pages.

Wow - it's been a long time since I've updated the site here. Not a lot has been going on Halloween-wise. I have had some thoughts on trying my hand at an Etsy store, and have a few ideas on things to create for it. The only thing holding me back at this point in time is money for supplies, but I'm hoping something pans out soon on that front. Aside from that, I don't have anything new to show or talk about for the haunt this year. I am definitely not having the party this year, thanks to quitting my job at the Evil Empire, then going to work for an even more evil entity, my ex-husband, then having him fire me due to a disagreement over something stupid (as usual). Shoulda known better than to even go back there given his history of overreacting. Anyway, now I'm jobless and trying to find gainful employment again, which leaves me a bit more time to work on things I've neglected, like this site and the Florida Haunters site. Hopefully I can get both sites caught up on the latest happenings and what-not.

Speaking of which, we were able to attend the last Florida Hauntes make-n-take in May, which I was very excited about. Tom had the opportunity to meet my "other" family, which was nice. I also made a new Facebook page, to sort out my real friends from my gaming friends, so if you're not on the new one, add me! (Correct link to the left in the navigation pane.)

We brought home a new family member this summer too, her name is Jynx, and she's a little black kitten. She reminds me so much of my dear Jeeperz (RIP), whom I miss so much still. Jynx is a hoot, and a sweet baby, and I see so much fun to be had with her.

That's about all I have to report. Hopefully soon, I will work on a prop or two!
